OUTREACH
Newcomer Committee
This committee was formed in 2022 to support refugees moving to Guelph, and has since broadened to focus on all newcomers to the area.
We have done this work through:
- Information session for newcomers – introducing them to services available and helping to build a community that can support each other
- Collecting winter and summer clothing and donating it to the Clothing Closet
- Collecting back packs and back-to-school supplies to Hope House
- Hosting a family event, providing activities and refreshments to families in the Shelldale area.
Eden Mills Writers Festival
We participate in the Eden Mills Writers Festival, collecting children’s books which in turn are donated to the Children’s Reading Room.
Community projects
On a regular basis, we determine where there is a need in the community and collect items that will support local agencies. Examples include
- Bedding for women leaving Women in Crisis
- Mother’s Day gifts to young mothers at Michael House
- Hygiene products to Sanguen Health Centre
- Adopt a family through the Children’s Foundation
- Eggs and cheese to Chalmers
Agency tours
Starting in 2024, we will be visiting local agencies to get a better understanding of what they do, and what they need.
Environmental Care Committee
- Education – We will seek speaker and other learning opportunities to grow our knowledge, understanding and confidence in Environmental Care.
- Community – We will be involved in the community in such a way that we display, as a club, a respect for the environment.
- Core value – We will build Environmental Care as a core value in our club that everything we do conforms to what we understand to be good Environment care practices.
