Small Steps - Big Impact - Aging Safely

Susie Gregg – Professional Biography

Susie is an Occupational Therapist (OT), currently working as a Geriatric Clinical Resource Consultant for Primary Care; a role sponsored by the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington.  In this role, she supports primary care staff to build capacity in the provision of care for older adults. Susie also works on a contract basis with the Geriatric Health Systems Research Group, out of the University of Waterloo.

Prior to these positions, Susie was a community OT contracted through CCAC (now Home and Community Care Support Services).  Her pursuit of a career in Occupational Therapy was inspired by her prior years of employment with the Alzheimer Society of Guelph-Wellington. Some of her greatest heroes are those she met along her employment journey, who are living with dementia, each of whom has impacted the person she is today.

Susie and her husband have a spirited 8 year old daughter who can be counted on to provide endless amounts of laughter, love and sleep-deprivation J  As a family, they enjoy exploring nature, recreational kayaking, reading and storytelling.

Below is a summary of my talk:

Small Steps…Big Impact

The 24 Hour Movement Guidelines are an initiative of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology in partnership with the Public Health Agency of Canada, Queens University and ParticipACTION.  The guidelines provide background on the optimal amount of physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep – and the best combination of these behaviours. In addition to the guidelines, we will briefly explore Fall Prevention opportunities, and jointly discuss practical approaches to increasing healthy movement choices throughout the day.

You can expect to takeaway practical learnings, grounded in research findings, to enable the incorporation of small changes that will have lasting impacts.
